Lydia Maria Child’s 216th birthday party.

A celebration of Lydia Maria Child’s life was enjoyed by many on Sunday afternoon. Born in Medford, Mass in 1802 Child was a progressive author who defied social norms for women as an abolitionist and activist for the rights of women and Native Americans.

The well-attended birthday celebration was organized by the Wayland Historical Society and hosted by Aijaz Baloch and others of the Islamic Center of Boston in Wayland who provided visitors with refreshments as well a tour of the facility. Thanks also to Stop & Shop in Wayland for the birthday cake to complete the celebration.

Playwright and actress Laura Duggan presented a videotape of her performance of “The Ghost of Lydia Maria Child”.

Historical Society curator, Jane Sciacca displayed the cherished bonnet of Mrs. Child.
